As a Joint Commission accredited facility you must have:

• a code of conduct that defines acceptable behaviors;
• a process in place for managing disruptive and inappropriate behaviors
• foundational principles of conflict management:

As a Joint Commission accredited facility, adherence to these standards protects your patient’s safety and quality of care. According to the standards your facility should be capable of dealing with a range of potential conflicts. The ability to manage conflict and conflict resolution should be core competencies within your facility.

How Do You Measure Up?

• Has your facility clearly designed approaches to resolving conflicts?
• Are your facility’s policies and procedures consistent with the Joint Commission standards?
• Is your facility- its leaders and staff – conflict competent?
• Are you confident that patient safety and quality of care is not threatened by unprofessional or disruptive behaviors?
